This isn't a financial recap. Shopify's Q2 results contain four merchant-relevant signals that tell you where commerce is heading — and what it means for the decisions you make between now and November.

[1] B2B ecommerce is going mainstream, and it's borrowing B2C expectations

Shopify reported 76% year-over-year B2B GMV growth in Q2, alongside its decision to make native B2B capabilities available beyond the Shopify Plus tier. The numbers matter less than what's driving them: B2B buyers increasingly expect what B2C customers already take for granted — streamlined ordering, clean checkout, delivery visibility, proactive communication, and self-service returns.

For merchants expanding into wholesale or retailer channels, the operational implication is immediate. The post-checkout B2B experience can't remain an afterthought. Your wholesale buyers are now measuring you against their best B2C experiences, and the gap shows faster than you'd expect.

[2] Physical and digital retail are converging — but operations haven't caught up

Shopify's offline and POS GMV grew 32% year over year, while the company continues investing in unified inventory and retail infrastructure.
